About us
I grew up in Vermont spending my summers on Lake Champlain at a family camp. After high school I attended UVM and graduated from Champlain College. My husband Josh was born in Arizona and moved to Vermont at a young age, spending his summer’s coincidentally a few camps down from ours. He graduated from Castleton State College. Even though we spent our childhood summers down the street from one another, attended the same elementary school and our parents had many mutual friends, somehow, our path’s never crossed.
How we met
Josh and I met in the spring of 2005; I had just graduated college and he had just celebrated his 21st birthday. I was with my friend and her boyfriend who were meeting another couple in Burlington for dinner. I felt like the third wheel, but little did I know there would be another third wheel as well. Josh showed up with the other couple we were meeting. Our table wasn’t ready, so we all waited at the bar together. Josh and I talked a little and hung out with our friends. Since we were with two couples I jokingly said to him, “hey, why don’t you be my boyfriend for the night?” He smiled at me and said “sure”! I don’t think either of us thought that 16 months later we would be engaged.
How we got engaged
Right after Josh and I moved into an apartment together, he immediately started the Police Academy. This meant we only saw each other on weekends. On this particular weekend, I had to work and Josh called me to tell me he was going out with friends and may not be home when I got done. I was a little disappointed because we only had two days a week together and I really wanted to see him. When I got home I walked in and there was a path of roses and rose petals leading down the hall, up the stairs and towards our bedroom. I just thought Josh was being sweet because I had gotten upset when we spoke earlier. I went upstairs and opened our bedroom door and there he was all dressed up with roses and candles everywhere. He took my hand and told me how much he loved me and how he wanted to spend everyday of his life with me. He dropped to one knee and I instantly started crying. He asked me to marry him and I, of course, said yes!
